I have recently had the opportunity to visit the
Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary located on Duck Lake Road just outside of Minden where I will be building and donating an outdoor pen for baby racoons to grow and develop.  This wonderful rehabilitation and sanctuary for our smaller wildlife is run by Monika Melichar who is well qualified and experienced in wildlife rehabilitation.  Monika is licenced as a Wildlife Custodian with the Ministry of Natural Resources and also has a migratory bird permit with the Canadian Wildlife Services...
Wildlife such as baby and adult racoons, squirrels, ducks, birds, turtles, geese, grouse, skunks and other species can find safe refuge at the Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary.  They will receive the proper care and nutrition they need to develop, grow and heal in order to prepare them for release back into the wild, where they belong.  The Sanctuary is a registered charitable organization and is not funded by any government agency and is completely supported through monetary donations and donated supplies.

This is the busy season for Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary as more and more baby animals are being brought there almost daily.

Or you make can make a safe and secure donation directly through this link to their website

The Sanctuary is also always in need of volunteers in many areas such as:

wildlife care (must be 16 years of age)
     fund raising & community awareness
     cage construction & landscaping
     running errands/shopping, etc
transportation and capture, rescue and release
     office duties & administration

I was very impressed with Monika Melichar and Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary.  She is truly dedicated to the care, rehabilitation and eventual release of our wildlife.  Any wildlife that is not capable of being released back into their natural environment may find safe permanent refuge at the Sanctuary.  We truly need more people like her and more centers like this to help with the care of our injured and orphaned wildlife which in turn helps to sustain and preserve our native species.
